A funding round is news for more than investors
When a startup closes a round, at least five audiences care: the next set of investors scanning for momentum, senior candidates deciding whether you are a safe bet, enterprise buyers checking that you will still be around next year, partners looking for credible collaborators, and journalists who track who is backing whom. A press release puts one authoritative version of the story in front of all of them on the same day.
It also works for the milestones between rounds. A product launch, a first enterprise customer or a move into a new city rarely gets a reporter's attention on its own, but a well-written release still turns it into a dated, searchable record that founders can point to in pitch decks and hiring conversations.
Who sees a startup announcement
Indian startup news is read by founders, VCs, angel networks, family offices and the business desks of national publications. Our India Focused packages carry your release through newswire syndication (ANI, PTI, IANS, depending on the package) plus Business Standard and Hindustan Times syndication in the higher tiers, alongside a network of Indian business and news websites. For a seed or pre-Series A announcement aimed at the domestic ecosystem, that is usually the right starting point.
If you are raising from, selling to or hiring in overseas markets, an international package places the same story on hundreds of US and global news sites. SaaS founders courting American customers often pair an India package with Advanced or Pro, and add a single premium site such as AP News or StreetInsider when a recognisable masthead matters for the investor update. Read how Indian brands reach American media before choosing.

Search results that do diligence for you
Every serious investor, candidate and procurement team will search your company name before a meeting. If the first page shows only your own website and a stale directory listing, you look smaller than you are. Distributed releases add dated news articles on established domains, and many of those sites are eligible for Google News and Top Stories, so a fresh funding headline can appear when someone searches your brand.
Be realistic about the SEO side. Links inside press releases are normally nofollow, so the value is not link equity. It is branded mentions on trusted domains, more pages ranking for your company and founder names, referral visits from curious readers, and a steady body of coverage that supports your topical authority in your category. Our guide on whether press releases help SEO goes deeper.
Getting named when someone asks an AI assistant
Founders increasingly hear prospects say they found them by asking ChatGPT or Perplexity for "startups that do X in India". Assistants such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews lean on sources that look credible and agree with each other. A release on news domains that states your category, founding year, founders, investors, round size and what you actually do, in plain sentences, gives these systems clean facts to work with.
Consistency is the lever you control: use the same company description, the same founder titles and the same one-line positioning in every release and on your site. Nobody can promise an AI citation, but vague, buzzword-heavy releases make you harder to describe. See our GEO playbook for PR for a fuller checklist.
Milestones worth a release
- Pre-seed, seed, Series A and later rounds, including bridge and extension rounds
- Product launches, new pricing plans or a major version release
- First marquee customer, pilot conversion or government empanelment
- Accelerator or incubator selection and grant wins
- CXO hires, board seats and advisory appointments
- Entry into a new city, state or country
- Strategic partnerships, acqui-hires and acquisitions

Writing the funding release
- Lead with the amount, the round and the lead investor in the first sentence.
- Say plainly what the capital will fund: hiring, product, expansion or all three.
- Quote the founder and the lead investor, each saying something specific rather than "we are excited".
- Share one or two traction figures you are comfortable defending publicly; do not inflate users or revenue.
- Get written sign-off from every investor named, and check any term-sheet confidentiality before you publish.
- Close with an About section for the company and each named investor.
Timing matters. Many founders brief one or two journalists under embargo, then distribute the wire release at the agreed time so the exclusive and the syndicated story land together. Weekday mornings IST usually suit Indian business desks. Our funding announcement playbook walks through templates and examples.
Built for lean teams
Most early-stage companies have no PR hire. You write in our editor, choose a package, pay in INR or USD, an editor reviews the copy against our publishing guidelines, and after distribution you receive a report of every live link, which drops straight into your next investor update. More founder-specific support is on our startup solutions page, and SaaS teams may also want the technology and SaaS page.

Frequently asked questions
Can I time a funding announcement to go out with an exclusive story?
Yes. Submit your release early and set the distribution date and time you have agreed with the journalist. Once our editor approves it, we release it at that slot so the exclusive and the wire version appear together.
Should a seed-stage startup choose an India or an international package?
Pick the market where your investors, customers and hires are. Domestic-focused startups usually start with an India Focused package; companies selling to US or global buyers often add an international package or a premium site such as AP News.
Do I need my investors' approval before naming them in the release?
You should get written confirmation from every investor you name and agree the round size you will disclose. Our editors check releases for clarity and policy, but founders are responsible for the accuracy of investor and financial details.
Will a funding press release get my startup into ChatGPT or Google's AI answers?
No one can promise that. A factual release on news domains, with consistent company details and named founders and investors, makes your startup easier for AI assistants and search engines to describe accurately.
Can I use the distribution report in an investor update?
Yes. After distribution you receive a report listing every live link, which founders often share with investors, boards and accelerator programme managers as proof of visibility.
